The identity of the airman has been determined but the information is withheld until next of kin has been notified, the command said. “Currently there is a combined effort in locating and recovering the remains of our eighth airman,” it said. (NEXSTAR) — The holidays are upon us, bringing with them a time of giving thanks and gifts and maybe even a tip. A recent study by Bankrate found that 44% of U.S. adults plan to tip as much as they did last year, while another 15% plan to do more year-end tipping. But as we’ve seen all year, tip creeping has been unforgiving, forcing many who are already pinching pennies to hold tighter to their funds. So who should you tip, and how much? Let’s start with the latter. According to the etiquette experts at the Emily Post Institute, it’s important to adhere to your budget. Don’t feel that you need to tip anyone more than you can afford. If you can’t afford a generous tip, consider a homemade gift or at least some kind words. Major changes to US immigration policy are under discussion: What to know

Published Fri, 21 Feb 2025 18:35:42 GMT

WASHINGTON (AP) — Congress is discussing changes to the immigration system in exchange for providing money to Ukraine in its fight against Russia and Israel for the war with Hamas.President Joe Biden has said he is willing to make “significant compromises on the border” to meet Republican demands that the assistance be tied to an overhaul of U.S border policy.Republicans say the record numbers of migrants crossing the southern border pose a security threat because authorities cannot adequately screen all the migrants and that those who enter the United States are straining the country’s resources. GOP lawmakers also say they cannot justify to their constituents sending billions of dollars to other countries, even in a time of war, while failing to address the border at home. Can you answer these US immigration test questions? But many immigration advocates, including some Democrats, say some of the changes being proposed would gut prote...

AUSTIN (Nexstar) - Billions of dollars in emergency foreign aid to Ukraine, Israel and Taiwan is on hold, caught up in a clash between U.S. Senate Democrats and Republicans, as GOP negotiators demand border and immigration changes in the package. On Wednesday, the Senate failed to pass the defense aid package in a 49-51 vote. While the money for foreign allies has garnered bipartisan support in the upper chamber, Senate Republicans are blocking the package to gain leverage in their demands for including overhauls to border an immigration issues.A classified briefing Tuesday for senators to discuss the White House’s request for Israel and Ukraine aid resulted in heated discussions and many Republican members storming out of the meeting. Much of the opposition to the legislation amongst senators is due to the lack of border security language.“This is a unique circumstance where there are things that I support in the package, but I can’t and won’t support that proceeding to th...

Sheldon Jacobson: What’s it like to be an ‘average’ American?

Published Fri, 21 Feb 2025 18:35:42 GMT

One of the best ways to get a picture of a nation is through its numbers and, perhaps more importantly, its averages. But Americans like to believe that their nation is exceptional. And in some ways, it is. Yet what transpires on an “average day” for the “average person” tells a story that each of us should listen to.CarsAmericans love their cars. In fact, we drive an average of 32 miles every day, which translates into about one hour per day behind the wheel. Some of that time can be dangerous. More than 14,000 automobile accidents occur each day, with more than 4,000 causing injuries; just under 100 result in one or more fatalities. Taking the time to buckle up has reduced this last number to current levels.TVAmericans spend even more time in front of the television. The average American adult spends nearly three hours per day watching television. Yet when it comes to time spent doing things, the winner is smartphone time, which exceeds three hours per day. ...
