In many households across Colorado, this week is all about Ralphie versus CAM the Ram. The rest of the year, however, Ralphie and CAM are more partners than rivals, as our universities work together to advance our state and develop solutions to society’s most difficult problems.Colorado State University and the University of Colorado Boulder team up each day to serve Colorado through groundbreaking research and exceptional education that sustain our state’s economy, health, climate and quality of life.Last year, combined research expenditures by CU Boulder and CSU Fort Collins totaled more than $1 billion. The CSU and CU systems employ more than 56,000 people in Colorado, while spinoff companies created from our universities’ research have created thousands more private-sector jobs across the state. Our alumni represent our most important contribution. Some are well-known, like CSU graduates astronaut Kjell Lindgren, Olympic champion Amy Van Dyken, and Tuskegee Airman and civil right...

Broncos Journal: In search of speed, Denver should push pace with RB Jaleel McLaughlin, LB Drew Sanders

Published Sat, 22 Feb 2025 05:13:23 GMT

Win or lose, Week 1 in the NFL provides the first batch of data for teams to begin figuring out out who they really are.The Broncos in Week 1 looked like a team that lacks explosiveness on both sides of the ball. They have some — cornerback Pat Surtain II, receiver Jerry Jeudy once he’s back on the field, left guard Ben Powers in the run game – but not enough.Coach Sean Payton isn’t going to throw out his entire blueprint and re-write it because of 60 minutes, nor should he. In fact, Week 1’s dink-and-dunk style suggests he suspected his team might struggle to run past Las Vegas. But one interesting development Sunday against Washington and into the coming weeks will be whether he and his staff show a willingness to give young players with explosive traits more opportunities. On offense, receiver Marvin Mims Jr. and running back Jaleel McLaughlin each have burst. Mims played 17 offensive snaps and McLaughlin just a couple. McLaughlin got one target in the flat against an u...

For the record, that's 102 days before Christmas, 70 days before Thanksgiving and 47 days before Halloween.U/CocoLoco1, who posted the pic to the r/LosAngeles subreddit, dubbed the premature celebration "insanity," adding "My wife and I were aghast." That notion that was echoed by dozens of commenters."This is the nightmare before Halloween," wrote u/tryAngularFish."Even for Halloween decorations this is too early," added u/ImStuckInYourToilet.However, u/JackInTheBell may have captured popular sentiment most succinctly with a reference to the smash-and-grab robberies, fights and flash mob robberies of recent months."Was expecting another story about a shoplifting mob," they wrote. Don’t look now, but Joshua Redman’s jazz career is evolving

Published Sat, 22 Feb 2025 05:13:23 GMT

There’s an early moment on Joshua Redman’s new album “where are we” that seems to open up a quietly astonishing landscape where the Berkeley saxophonist has never ventured before. The release is his first collaboration with a vocalist — captivating newcomer Gabrielle Cavassa — and his debut album on his new label, the storied Blue Note Records. If the lack of capitals in the concept album’s title feels like a feint at modesty, the project’s scope speaks to Redman’s ambition. Formatted like a double LP, “where we are” takes an emotional X-ray of the nation via an expansive reimagining of the American Songbook, city by city. The song that first seizes the imagination is a mashup of “Going to Chicago Blues,” the swaggering Count Basie staple for vocalist and co-writer Jimmy Rushing and (decades later) Joe Williams, with an interpolated motif from Sufjan Stevens’ “Chicago.” The album features a superlative cast with pianist Aaron Parks, bassist Joe Sanders, drummer Brian Blade...
