Ask Amy: My boyfriend’s ‘business’ brings scary people to our house

Dear Amy: My live-in boyfriend is a low-level pot dealer.Honestly, this has always bothered me, but he says that now that pot is legal in our state, he is no longer breaking the law, but running a business.I basically hate the fact that he does this. It brings losers into our home at odd hours, and I have at times felt unsafe.I guess I’m writing to you because I’d like a gut check. I value your point of view and could use another perspective. So – what do you think?TiredDear Tired: In my state (where consuming pot is now legal), individuals can grow a small number of plants for their own use, but it is still illegal to possess more than three ounces and to sell it outside of a legitimate and licensed business. You should do some research into the web of laws and regulations where you live in order to understand (better than your boyfriend does) the extent to which he is breaking the law.More important, in my mind, is the atmosphere this creates in your home, and how vulnerable you are...Harriette Cole: I’m tempted to follow my friend’s lead in fixing my boring life

SYDNEY (AP) — The underdogs are rising up at the Women’s World Cup.Jamaica’s 0-0 draw with one of the tournament favorites in France on Sunday was the latest evidence the gap is closing in international soccer. There were enough examples of that during the men’s World Cup in Qatar last year with Saudi Arabia beating eventual champion Argentina, while Morocco became the first African team to advance to the semifinals.“Smaller countries are getting that understanding. We might not have the resources the bigger countries do in terms of equipment and traveling and games, but I think there’s an understanding there with coaches and technical staff and everything that our preparation is a little bit better all around,” Jamaica coach Lorne Donaldson said.“Once upon a time the U.S. by far was very, very dominant and you can just see the gap is closing. I think the smaller nations are jumping on the bandwagon and saying, ‘We can do this too.’”France coach Hervé Renard, who le...Brighton PD investigate deadly crash between motorcycle, truck

WASHINGTON (AP) — When Chair Jerome Powell and other Federal Reserve officials gather this week for their latest decision on interest rates, they will do so on the cusp of achieving an elusive “soft landing” — the feat of curbing inflation without causing a deep recession. After the Fed began aggressively raising borrowing costs early last year, most economists predicted it would send the economy crashing as consumers cut spending and businesses slashed jobs and expansion plans.Yet even though the Fed is poised to raise its key rate this week for the 11th time since March 2022, to its highest point in 22 years, no one is panicking.
